VCP Cert path and on Demand Training questions and study material questions.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had experience taking the following course:

VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V6.7] - On Demand, I am looking for confirmation from anyone who knows if it will satisfy the requirements for taking the 6.7 Foundations exam? Also, this is a 5-day course does anyone know exactly how many hours it is from start to finish? I am working to schedule this in after work and on weekends if possible.

I was wondering also if anyone had some great study materials to go along with this course to help with the foundational exam and 6.7 Professional Exam?

Are there any great books to go along with studying? Any recommended video courses?

I currently have access to hands-on labs.

Try VMware Hands-on Labs - VMware

I do lack a home lab at the moment and was hoping to succeed with VCP with online materials and our 4 hosts 50 VM environment at work (vCenter standard).

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

I had the same issue for past few weeks. Updated to 6.7.0.44000 and looks like this is resolved. I've run my playbook for renewing letsencrypt certificates a bunch of times, rebooted vcsa and everything seems to be stable so far.

Thanks dariusd, very interesting information about vusb... would this still apply if we used a second separate wireless or bluetooth mouse after passing its usb receiver dongle into the guest?

Some more ideas:

1. Did you try to install any Linux guests yet? It would be interesting to see whether this is a Windows thing or not (e.g. bad/buggy windows CPU scheduling, 10th generation is still a very new CPU hardware).

2. Also, are you 100% sure your CPU is not throttling due to high temperature (are you checking the temperatures using e.g. Core Temp)? If the CPU is throttling it will show 100% even if the real speed is 0.1 GHz. After all this is a very thin 13 inch laptop and all thin laptops have very bad thermal behaviour. I remember reading a Macbook review this year where the CPU was throttling so badly, that people were talking about fraud...

3. Ask any of your friends/colleagues to lend you their laptop (preferably a gaming one, e.g. a 17" Alienware) and make speed tests to see if this an XPS thing.

4. Finally, there is also the case of bad hardware (defective motherboard, bad thermals etc.). In that case you could try to benchmark another sample of XPS13 in some shop where they have live PCs running for demonstration. This is a $2150 laptop and if I were you I'd ask for a replacement or refund if it does not work for my purposes. I'd buy a bigger, thicker laptop with proper airflow.

A passed-through USB HID would work in the VM as a separate pointing device, just like it would on a physical machine with two pointing devices (e.g. a mouse and a graphics tablet).

In the presence of two relative pointing devices (e.g. one passed-through USB mouse and an emulated relative pointing device), each can be used independently, and the results will generally be additive.

In the presence of one absolute pointing device and one relative pointing device (e.g. one passed-through USB mouse and an emulated absolute pointing device), the absolute pointing device will set the pointer's absolute position each time it moves, but any relative pointing device input will allow the cursor to move from that point until the next absolute input overrides it again.

A passed-through USB pointing HID will not be able to grab/ungrab from the host, regardless of whether it is an absolute pointer (graphics tablet) or relative pointer (mouse); The grab/ungrab behavior is unique to the VMware emulated absolute pointer, and any passed-through USB pointing HID will be constrained to the guest screen only.  A passed-through USB pointing HID will only be subjected to the guest's pointer acceleration, not the host's.

Dear All,

Seems like no resolution for this error if it happens.

Finally took a step by upgrading with vmware standard image of esxi 6.5 and the error is gone.

Try console through iLO or iDRAC because maybe your root account is looked and than remote login is not possible.

On second thoughts, the more I think about it, the more I am convinced this seems like a usual thermal throttling issue (and maybe I was wrong that CPU would still show 100%). Searching the net for "Dell XPS throttling" one can find a lot of articles in the Dell forums like

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-15-9570-i9-thermals-throttling-and-solutions/td-p/6116619

https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS-13-9370-CPU-throttling/td-p/6061871

There is even a tool to monitor/control/disable throttling called ThrottleStop (see http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-throttlestop-guide.531329/) but I am not sure whether this would a) not void your guarantee or b) damage your laptop. So, I wouldn't recommend playing with it to increase performance.

Finally, I think that using benchmarks that utilise the CPU for 10 minutes continuously like Silverbench does, would inevitably lead to throttling on ANY laptop. From my observations, when running a VM machine on my desktop, my PC uses a lot of CPU to start the VM and then it settles at 0%. Then the virtual machine runs very responsively, unless it is running CPU- or disk-intensive stuff. So it's OK to use VMware in a laptop, as long as you don't need CPU-intensive workloads.

Conclusion: If your particular application for which you need to use virtual machines does require continuous 100% usage for a long time (e.g computations, simulations etc), then clearly using a laptop is not the appropriate solution. If your application is 'normal', I'd suggest you just forget these benchmark results (which after all do not correspond to a realistic use scenario) and enjoy your high-end machine!

I hope all the above will put some peace on your mind and that you won't hit your head on the wall regretting spending all that money for a laptop that ends up not being suitable for your purpose  :-)

i had a connection server and one replica view connection server

i deleted the replica view connection server ( LDAP , ... )

but when i run command "Repadmin /showreps localhost:389 dc=vdi,dc=vmware,dc=int"

It shows me the following message that you are still in contact with the previous replica connection

Thanks for the very comprehensive answer, Darius. But disregarding the inconvenience of grabbing/ungrabbing the second mouse, would it still report false values, i.e. would it still be controlled by vusb?

Have you tried deleting the motherboard-provided drivers and letting Windows autodetect the hardware? I remember reading about similar problems where using the Windows or Intel drivers solved the problem.

For a passed-through mouse, it should report exactly as it does on a physical host... vusb is simply passing through the device's packets, and will not tamper with them along the way.

thanks mits,

i try to install a unbuntu, but on a SDCard, and i'm sure the result is not the same than on a hard disk.

i know about the cpu throtlling on the XPS, (is it my third XPS 13). the software throlstop is not working on new generation of CPU intel (i7-1065G7).

i check also this information.

i'm not complaining about my XPS directly, when i do the benchmark on the XPS itself, i have pretty good result.

i don't understand, why the benchmark result  on guest and host are so different??? only 35% of result!

i know that the cpu throll, and also i know that if i run in battery the power of cpu is very less than plugged on AC.

maybe i have only to forget the benchmark, but i didn't any performance upgrade on my VM betwwen my old XPS i7-8560 and my new I7-1065 (and i say on the VM only), i saw better performance on my XPS itself.

but i have somany enginneering software, that sometime can 't work together, i need use VMware . it also more convenient, when you change your laptotp, you don't need to reinstall all software (that can take some days).

maybe i should take a XPS15, that is more powerful. but the format of ths XPS 13 is very good, i like it...

anyway, i'm pretty sure, that something is wrong somewhere, and i would like really to can have comparaison data with nearly same type of CPU/MACHINE/VMWARE.

i hope u understand that!

1. The certification is VCP-DCV 2020

2. It is not the Foundations exam that has a training requirement (anyone can take it)

3. The VCP as a whole has the training requirement

4. As well as the Foundations exam (and the training) you also need to pass a Professional exam in order to meet the full requirements to achieve the VCP

5. The on demand class should take the same amount of time to complete as a regular live class, so approx 30 hours

6. From when you start, you have 30 days access to the class materials (videos, manuals, labs)

Have a look at this page: VMware Certified Professional - Data Center Virtualization 2020 (VCP-DCV 2020)

If you follow the links to the pages for each exam you will find an exam guide PDF which tells you the topics tested on and the associated documentation (which is also used to create and validate the exam items).

VMware have an active promotion that gives access to their Learning Zone video library for free at the moment: https://blogs.vmware.com/education/files/2020/05/VLZ-Premium-Subscription-6-Month-Promotion-External-FAQ.pdf

There are also numerous community resources for the exams, search online for “study guide” and you’ll find those.

i am always have to restart management agents for remote connection

This is a expected behavior.  ESXi runs within a RAMdisk and your changes are not persistent across reboot.  Maybe you can adding your stuff to local.sh recreating your content on every startup.

SSH is only needed for trouble shooting and not daily management.
